World Series Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51M viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series drew over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase over the previous year and the network’s best playoff performance after 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
