The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Follows Poor Reception

Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the need for a more defined game identity.

The president expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the complete content from Ismailer's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a clearer vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our fans.

The trust in this project grows every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Director of the team. Following some time of conversations, Ben officially joins us on next week.

Ben’s guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having dedicated the recent years developing and leading some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in welcoming him next week. We are all eager to persist seeing the development of the game in the months to ahead.

David
